FRASER Island's $450,000 project to eliminate radio communications black spots?is now?at the halfway mark.
Member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen said the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service now has new repeater stations at Ungowa and Orchid Beach.
The next stage will establish a repeater station at Eurong as well as upgrading existing stations at Sandy Cape and Lake Bowarrady.
Mr Sorensen said it was essential to increase safety for residents and visitors.
"The safety of rangers involved in day-to-day operations and their ability to manage and respond to serious incidents such as vehicle accidents, search and rescue efforts, wildlife issues and wildfires, means good radio communications is critical," he said.
"When the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service network is fully operational we will have a far more comprehensive radio communications network that covers virtually the whole island."
The new network is expected to be fully?functional by the end of the year.
